About 50 vendors operating out of Kampong Speu bus station yesterday delivered a petition to the Ministry of Urban Planning asking that plans to relocate the bus station to make way for the construction of flats be reconsidered.
Shoe vendor Heng Pao, 42, said yesterday that if the bus station were to move it would lose its convenient location next to Kampong Speu market.
“The place the bus station is expected to move to is far away. Who would buy our goods?” Pao said. “We know that the bus station is built on state land, so how come they’re taking state land to build flats?”
Lao Davuth, a deputy director of land management at the ministry, said that the petition had been received, and the situation would be reviewed.
“We have our working group to work on this . . . They will go to talk with the authorities and villagers,” he said.
A letter issued by Provincial Governor Vei Samnang in May said ownership had been transferred to Chhoun Kim San Import Export Co Ltd, the company behind the proposed development.
