Thai authorities stop Cambodians transporting chemical fertilizer across the border.

Thai authorities on Sunday stopped nearly 50 homemade tractors and trucks belonging to Cambodians who were transporting chemical fertilizer from Sa Kaeo province in Thailand into Cambodia, according to a police officer.

Ouk Sophanith, the police chief of Thmor Pouk district bordering Sa Kaeo’s Ta Phraya district, said that about 200 Cambodians were stopped by Thai authorities on Sunday, but the problem had already been resolved.

“Yesterday, Thai authorities stopped Cambodian tractors transporting fertilizer and 274 Cambodians and 49 homemade trucks and tractors were stopped. We already resolved the case,” he said.

Mr Sophanith said the tractors, trucks and fertilizer were given back to the owners, though some bags of fertilizer were seized as evidence.

“On the 49 homemade trucks and tractors, they transported 655 bags of fertilizer and the Thai authorities seized 200 bags as evidence and gave the rest back,” he said.

He added that Thai authorities wanted to make sure the goods were legally exported and properly checked.
