Monday’s secondary school examinations were set to go on as scheduled despite flooding and will remain the responsibility of district-level education departments, an official from the Ministry of Education said.

Pring Morkoath, the head of the secondary general education department at the ministry, told The Post on Monday that it (the ministry) had passed the responsibility for facilitating the tests to local officials three years ago.

“We handed the rights to examination stations and each district department to arrange the examination. The secondary examination centres are at the school itself and there are 1,658 stations,” he said.

Despite the fact that 10 per cent of examination centres are flooded due to the rains, Morkoath said that affected areas have relocated testing to safe centres.

“Only 10 percent of the examination stations are flooded, but we have informed all of them about the matter. They have been advised to take precautions and be prepared to change venues to safer schools if required,” he said.

The Ministry of Education said that the examinations were set to be administered on Monday, with the results scheduled to be announced on August 13.

Additionally, examinations held on August 20 will see results announced on September 11, said a statement signed by Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron.
