Kampong Cham provincial authority halted the sale of wild animals on National Road 6 in Batheay district, which is notorious for the illegal trade.

Provincial deputy governor Keo Nearith said on Wednesday, police seized three species of wild animals and arrested a trader.

The suspect was identified as Chuob Chin, 38. “We held him for displaying and selling wild animals illegally in public,” he said.

Chin later signed a contract promising not to repeat the offence before being released.

Nearith said Chin was freed because he was a small vendor who made just enough profits to support his family.
