A recently-built bridge spanning Sekong river in Stung Treng province’s Siem Pang district broke down due to flooding, a report said.
In today’s statement, Stung Treng Information Department said that Ou’touk bridge broke down due to flooding today and it was built by engineering soldiers and has yet to be inaugurated.
“Ou’touk bridge collapsed at the border post No 78 of Cambodian-Lao border at 3am on Monday this morning,” it said.
Stung Treng provincial hall spokesman Men Kong said that officials have a meeting about the collapsed bridge.
Today, the water resources Ministry said that the Mekong river in Stung Treng province is reaching 11 meters, just a few centimeters shy of the danger zone and heavy rain is expected today till 9 in Stung Treng, Ratanakkiri, Kratie, and Tboung Khmum provinces.
Prey Veng provincial officials today warned residents that the water levels of the Mekong River under Neak Loeung bridge continue to rise, noting that the water is close to reach the danger zone of 7.5 meters.
