Phnom Penh Municipal Hall does not have a solution for the victims of trees which collapsed on cars this week, its spokesman Met Meas Pheakdey told The Post on Monday.
He said during a storm, trees collapsed on three cars. Authorities acted swiftly to fell the trees and remove them.
“We do not have a solution for the victims. As for the collapsed trees, we cut them into pieces in order to facilitate traffic flow,” he said.
There is concern among the public and social observers, who said that the authorities should have solutions and preventative measures to avoid such accidents on the streets of Phnom Penh.
“This case is not new. We have worked on this regularly. Some people have questions when they see the authorities trimming tree branches such as along Kampuchea Krom Boulevard.”
“They usually ask why authorities cut all the branches like this. This is our preservation method. We look after those huge trees regularly in Phnom Penh,” Meas Pheakdey said.
