Ministry warns of coming drought

The Water Resources and Meteorology Ministry is calling on all Cambodians to conserve water due to fear of drought during next year’s dry season.

The dry season is expected to commence in February and it will end in May.

On Monday, the ministry said in a statement that January temperatures will range from 17 to 28 degrees Celsius, especially in mountainous areas. Continue reading

Sharp decrease in approved construction projects

The Ministry of Land Management this week reported a 19 percent drop in the number of approved construction projects for 2018, with only 2,867 projects being greenlighted, compared to 3,052 last year.

Total investment in construction projects this year totalled $5.2 billion, down from 2019’s $6.4 billion. Continue reading

Vendors cheer electricity price cut

Market vendors in the capital yesterday welcomed the government’s decision to reduce the price of electricity from 1,000 riel to only 740 riel per kilowatt hour.

Increase in land dispute resolutions

The Land Management Ministry yesterday announced it solved 364 out of 990 land dispute cases reported throughout the country this year, an increase when compared to last year’s 208 solved cases.

A report issued yesterday noted that the ministry’s cadastral survey commission solved 263 of the cases, while the ministry’s working group solved 101. Continue reading

Factory fire claims last victims

The three remaining victims of a fire last week at the Golden Rice Factory in Kampong Speu province’s Odong district died on Saturday, an official said yesterday.

Choek Borin, provincial labour department director, said that two of the victims died while being treated in Vietnam, while the third died in Calmette Hospital in Phnom Penh. Continue reading

Government reorganises land dispute resolution body

The government has reorganised the Kingdom’s land resolution body, which deals with land disputes.

According to a sub-decree signed on December 13 by Prime Minister Hun Sen, Land Management Minister Chea Sophara becomes chairman of the National Authority for Land Dispute Resolution and Khun Haing becomes his vice chairman. Continue reading
